Sri Lanka’s head coach Chris Silverwood expects Kusal Mendis, who was admitted to hospital following chest pain, to be fine soon and will join the team in the ongoing Test.

“Kusal (Mendis) is currently having some checks done on him to make sure he’s okay. We will get a report from the doctor. Our first and most important thing is the welfare of the player. Hopefully, he will be okay and back with us in the hotel tonight,” said Silverwood.

The Daily Sun learnt that Kusal was cleared of any major complications following an ECG on Monday (May 23).

Kusal was taken to a hospital for proper diagnosis and better management after complaining of chest pain during the opening session (in the 23rd over) of the second Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

Kusal earlier made 54 and 48 runs respectively in the opening drawn Test in Chattogram.
