N’ganj gold traders see massive dev under Sayem Sobhan Anvir’s leadership

Speakers at a programme in Narayanganj on Monday said the gold traders of the district have seen massive development under the leadership of Bangladesh Jewellers’ Samity (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir in just six months which could not be achieved in the last 26 years.

They said his special business acumen and foresight will take the traders much forward.

The programme was held at the Grand Hall Restaurant in the city’s Chashara area to welcome new BAJUS members.

MA Wadud Khan, chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law and Membership and former president of the organisation, was present at the event as the chief guest while Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, former president of BAJUS and chairman of its District Monitoring Standing Committee, spoke as a special guest.

At that programme, 220 new members of BAJUS from Narayanganj were accorded a reception. The guests handed over membership cards, BAJUS certificates, flowers and identity cards to all of them.

In his speech, MA Wadud Khan said, “You’ll buy gold with memos and take copies of NIDs from the sellers. If police harass you even after that, we’ll look into the matter. Do business honestly. Sayem Sobhan Anvir is by you. Anyone who buys jewellery from a store that doesn’t have the BAJUS logo might be deceived.”

“Not only 40,000 but we’ll have 60,000-70,000 members all over Bangladesh.

There’re many shops outside Narayanganj city. Then why don’t they become BAJUS members? There’ll be 2,000 members from Narayanganj alone,” he added.

Wadud Khan said, “We’ll all pay taxes to the government and do business. Let’s follow the BAJUS policy and sell jewellery at the identical rates. We’ll have no problem. Gold will be produced in Bangladesh within a year. Our business will see good days.”

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy said, “There’re some unscrupulous traders who sell gold at a lower price than that fixed by BAJUS. Poor-quality products are available at low prices. We want to maintain the standard. Sayem Sobhan Anvir is a symbol of unity. He doesn’t want any division.”

Md Shahidullah, vice-president of Narayanganj district unit of BAJUS, presided over the programme. Former BAJUS President Enamul Haque Khan, BAJUS Vice-President Gulzar Ahmed, its Assistant Secretary Masudur Rahman and Executive Member Md Riponul Hasan also spoke on the occasion.

At the end of the ceremony, Ruhul Amin Rasel, business editor of the Bangladesh Pratidin, received a memorandum of honour on behalf of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Hanif Uddin Selim, general secretary of Narayanganj district chapter of BAJUS, and gold traders Monir Hasan Khan, Faruk Ahmed, Amir Hossain Khan, Abhijit Roy, Golam Mohammad Khoka, Liton Khandaker, Nazrul Islam Roman and Asaduzzaman were also present.
