Bangladesh Cricket Board included pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman in the Test squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies.

Mustafizur last played red-ball cricket during the home series against West Indies in 2021 and since then did not play in this format while he was reluctant to play Test as he believed he needed to play by picking and choosing to prolong his international career.

BCB sent him a letter recently asking him to clear his position in red-ball cricket and later the paceman agreed to change his mind and play Test cricket for the sake of his country.

“Naturally his inclusion will strengthen our Test squad considering he is an experienced campaigner,” a top BCB official said.

Apart from Mustafizur, Mehidy made a comeback in the Test squad while Mushfiqur Rahim was out from all three formats as he wanted to skip the series for performing Hajj.

Besides, Anamul Haque made a comeback in the ODIs and T20s due to his tremendous form in the Dhaka Premier League where he amassed more than 1000 runs to make his way in the national dressing room after being in the wilderness since 2019.

“He (Anamul) was very impressive in domestic cricket,” the selector said.

Nurul Hasan was also awarded a place in the ODIs and T20Is squad for his prolific form in the DPL.

Mohammad Saifuddin also made a comeback in the white-ball format after playing his last international cricket during the ICC T20 World Cup as he was ruled out from the midst of the tournament due to sustaining a back injury.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Khaled Ahmed failed to retain their place in the ODIs while Mohammad Naim and Taskin Ahmed were not included in the T20Is.

Mosaddek, who recently got a chance in the Test squad, was also picked for ODIs and T20Is against West Indies apart from retaining his place in the Test squad.

Meanwhile, Minhajul hinted that Shakib Al Hasan might not be around in the ODIs if he is given leave by the BCB cricket operations considering according to sources he is not interested to play the ODIs and want some rest as the three-match ODIs are not part of ICC Super League.

“If Shakib applies for it (leave in the ODIs) we will see that later and it is up to the BCB cricket operations to decide whether they will grant him leave or not,” Minhajul added.
