Mariner Hadisur’s family gets Tk 1m donation

CHATTOGRAM: The family of Engineer Hadisur Rahman, who was killed in a rocket attack on Bangladeshi-flagged ship ‘Banglar Samriddhi’ in a Ukrainian port on March 2, received a Tk1 million donation from Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers’ Association (BMMOA) at a function at its office in the city’s Strand Road on Friday.

BMMOA President Captain Anam Chowdhury, General Secretary Shakhawat Hossain and other leaders of the association handed over the donation to Hadisur’s brother Golam Mawla Prince.

In a written statement, Shakhawat said, “International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and Bangladeshi mariners have arranged the donation for Hadisur’s family.

They demanded that the investigation committee, which has been formed to probe into the matter and compensate the family of Hadisur Rahman, publish proper and complete report within the shortest possible time.

Mentionable, the Bangladeshi ship had been staying at the inner anchorage of Olvia Port of Ukraine since February 21.

The day turned into a nightmare when a missile directly hit the bridge of the bulk-carrier, resulting in a fire.  The attack left vessel’s third engineer Hadisur Rahman, hailing from Betagi upazila in Barguna, dead on the spot.

However, all other crew members survived the attack unhurt.
