Bangladesh will take part in a tri-nation T20 tournament in New Zealand featuring the hosts and Pakistan in the build-up of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, scheduled in October-November.

The tournament is expected to start on October 7 or 8 and all the matches will be played in Christchurch, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official informed on Tuesday.

“The tri-series in New Zealand will be our last international T20 assignment before the World Cup,” BCB Cricket Operation Chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters in Chattogram.

“Although it is yet to be finalized (the third team of the tri-series), most probably Pakistan will be the other team apart from the hosts and us,” he added.

Bangladesh earlier planned to play a T20I series against New Zealand in 2020 ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia but later shelved it as the tournament was postponed till 2022 due to the coronavirus.

Bangladesh will also have a seven to eight days camp in Adelaide before leaving for New Zealand to play the tri-series. During the camp in Adelaide, the Tigers are expected to play a T20 game against an Australian domestic team.

Bangladesh will also play two T20I series against West Indies and Zimbabwe respectively before taking part in the Asia Cup, which will also be held in T20 format ahead of the World Cup.
