Husband tied up, wife gang-raped

Culprits still at large

A woman was gang-raped after her husband had been tied at a mess in T and T Bazar of Tongi.

The rape victim filed a case against two culprits at Tongi East Police Station on Sunday following the incident on Friday night. The accused are Shafiqul Islam, 40, and Firoj, 35.

When contacted, Officer-in-charge (OC) Jabed Masud told the Daily Sun that they are hunting for the rape suspects.

Rabiul Azam, inspector (investigation) of the police station, said that the woman worked at a factory and her husband was a security guard.

He said that Shafiqul was the owner of the mess while Firoj lived there. The husband was an acquaintance of the duo.

Her husband borrowed Tk 10,000 from a man, but could not pay it back on time, which led the lender to lodge a complaint to Shafiqul.

On Friday night, Shafiqul asked the husband of the woman to come to the mess and tortured him. Then, Firoj went up to the woman and told her that her husband was being beaten.

The victim then rushed to the mess with Firoj around 11:00 pm. At one point, Shafiqul and Firoj tied him with rope. Later, they took the woman to another room and raped her.

On Saturday morning, they freed the couple saying that they would face dire consequences if they revealed the matter.
