Bangladesh national hockey team lost to Oman by 2-6 goals in the final of the Men’s Asian Games Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday.

Oman have ended Bangladesh’s 10-match winning streak which started in the AHF Cup in March. The men in red and green finished as the runners-up in the tournament as they stormed into the final with an all-win record.

Bangladesh also confirmed a slot for Asian Games along with five other teams including Oman, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and the hosts Thailand.  The six qualifying teams will join the other six top-ranked teams in Asia – India, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Korea and China – in the main phase of the Games.

The 19th Asian Games, which was scheduled to be held from September 10 to 25 in the Chinese city Hangzhou, had been postponed with no new dates earlier this month.

But Asian Hockey Federation continued the qualifying events after the postponement.  On Sunday, Bangladesh conceded three goals within the first 10-minute in the final of the qualifying event. Oman’s Al Shaaibi Ammaar, Al Lawati Fahad and Al-Saadi Salah scored one each in the 4th, 8th and 10th minutes (3-0).

The match went to Oman when Bangladesh conceded the fourth goal in the third quarter. Al Qasmi Asaad Mubarak scored the goal in the 34th minute (4-0).  Bangladesh’s Ashraful Islam reduced the gap 4-1 in the 48th minute but Oman’s Al Fazari Rashad and Al-Shibli Asama added one each in the 51st and 59th minutes to extend the margin (6-1).

Fazla Rabby netted the consolation goal for Bangladesh in the 60th minute (6-2).
