Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra Ltd earned a valuable point after they played a 1-1 draw with Dhaka Abahani Limited during their 15th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League at the Sylhet District Stadium in Sylhet on Thursday.
Abahani’s national forward Mehedi Hasan Royel gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute before Dipok Roy scored the equaliser in the added time (90+5 minute) of the second half to give his side a much-needed point.
“I’ve played for Abahani for three years. I knew they would make a blunder at the defence during the last minute of the game, I’ve just waited for that chance,” Dipok said after the match, who joined Sheikh Russel from Abahani ahead of this season.
After the stalemate result, Sheikh Russel remained at the eighth position with 15 points while Dhaka Abahani are in the second position with 32 points from 15 matches.
Meanwhile, the defending champions Bashundhara Kings extended their points difference for winning the title after beating Bangladesh Police Football Club by 2-1 goals in a crucial match at the Muktijuddho Sriti Stadium in Rajshahi.
Kings’ Brazilian forward Miguel Figueira Damasceno struck twice in the 12th and 30th minutes of the game while Police FC’s Brazilian defender cum captain Danilo Augusto Chapoval de Azevedo reduced the gap by converting a spot-kick correctly in the 82nd minute.
With the feat, the Kings consolidated the top slot with 38 points from twelve wins, two draws and one defeat while Police are in the seventh position with their previous 19 points from five wins, four draws and six defeats.
Sheikh Jamal’s Nigerian forward Musa Tachi Najare scored the match-winner in the 6th minute of the game.
After the day’s victory, Sheikh Jamal remained the third with 30 points while Rahamatganj remained at the 10th spot with their previous credit of 10 points.
Saif Sporting Club crushed Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd by 3-1 goals at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium in Cumilla.
Uzbek midfielder Asror Gafurov and Nigerian duos Mfon Udoh, Emeka Ogbugh scored one each in the 18th, 23rd and 80th minutes while midfielder Jafar Iqbal netted the consolation goal for Mohammedan in the 80th minute.
Saif are in the fourth spot with 27 points while Mohammedan remained at the sixth position with their previous credit of 22 points.
