Documentary film ‘Ganer Pakhi’ on Ferdausi Rahman

A documentary titled ‘Ganer Pakhi’ has been made on country’s legendary singer Ferdausi Rahman. Produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), the documentary has been directed by Sandip Biswas.  

The 49-minute length documentary depicts the life and works of Ferdausi Rahman.

About the project, Sandip said, “I feel honoured to work on the documentary of legendary singer Ferdausi Rahman.Thanks to Shilpakala Academy authorities for involving me in this project.”  

Noted playback singer Ferdausi Rahman was born on June 28 in 1941 in Cooch Behar, India.

She is the daughter of folk singer Abbas Uddin. Ferdausi Rahman sang over five thousand songs including 250 film songs. 

Her children’s musical programme ‘Esho Gaan Shikhi’ has been running for 58 years on Bangladesh Television. She is known as Gaaner Khalamoni (Aunt of Song) for this programme. 

She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 1977 and Independence Day Award in 1995 by the Government of Bangladesh.
