Nigeria-born Bangladeshi forward Eleta Kingsley will play for Bangladesh Premier League champions Bashundhara Kings in the upcoming Group D (South Asian Zone) affairs of AFC Cup 2022, scheduled to be held from May 18-24 at the centralised venue Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, India.

Bangladesh Football Federation general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag confirmed on Monday that they have received an official clearance regarding Eleta Kingsley’s participation in the AFC Cup from the Asian Football Federation authority.

“AFC sent an official letter to us where they informed that Eleta Kingsley can play for Bashundhara Kings as a Bangladeshi player in the upcoming AFC Cup. But it is yet to be confirmed whether he is able to play for the national team. AFC also wrote that they will inform us soon,” Shohag told the reporters at BFF house in the capital.

Eleta has been permanently playing in the domestic league for Bashundhara Kings since 2021, though he wasn’t able to play in AFC Cup last year due to FIFA-AFC’s complicated procedures.

This year, the Kings again completed Eleta’s registration formalities in the previous players’ registration window for the AFC Cup. The Kings' officials also informed its development to the media officially on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Kings will start their AFC Cup campaign taking on Maldivian side Maziya Sports and Recreation Club in their first match of the four-team Group D (South Asian Zone) on May 18.

The Bangladesh champions will play their next match against the fourth participants who will qualify through the play-off (South Asia) on May 21 and the last group match against Indian team Gokulam Kerala on May 24.
