Ailing Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed has been brought to Dhaka and admitted to United Hospital in Gulshan on Sunday.

Earlier, the 72-year old minister fell sick while returning from an Eid reunion programme in the Lalmonirhat’s Aditmari Upazila of his constituency on Saturday night, said Mizanur Rahman, the minister’s aide.

Late in the night, he was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the Department of Cardiology at Rangpur Medical College Hospital under the supervision of Prof Shakil Gofur.

Later, the social welfare minister was taken to the helipad of Rangpur Cantonment by ambulance around 1:15 pm on Sunday. From there, he was taken to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter at around 2:00pm.

Son of social welfare minister and organizing secretary of Lalmonirhat District Awami League Rakibuzzaman Ahmed said ever since he went to Lalmonirhat he was very busy taking part in various events including Eid celebrations. He didn’t get time to take rest for a few days.

“We have brought him to Dhaka following doctor’s advice,” he said, adding that the minister’s condition is stable now.

According to family sources, Nuruzzaman Ahmed has been suffering from high diabetes and cardiac problems for years.
