Use OSS for fast services: BIDA chief

Private sector enterprises should proactively utilise One Stop Service (OSS) facilities of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) so the process becomes faster, said BIDA Executive Chairman Md Sirazul Islam.

“At one point, it was the private sector that demanded a single window from where they could get all the relevant services to start or run a business,” he told a discussion organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) on Wednesday.

Currently, 58 different services are being provided through BIDA’s OSS portal, which, BIDA chairman said, should be used by the businessmen for their own benefits.

He informed that registration with BIDA and name clearance in Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms (RJSC) can now be accomplished within 24 hours through OSS.

In three years, OSS was able to provide about 60,000 services and now 90 percent of BIDA’s services were being provided in time, Md Sirazul Islam added.

He urged the private sector to access these digital facilities online to reduce the cost of doing business.

If the private sector companies show their keen interest to avail the OSS services, hundreds of more services will be added to the board, he said.

“If we can reduce time and process, the cost will automatically come down,” BIDA executive chairman said.

DCCI president Rizwan Rahman stressed the need to change mindset of the businessmen about the OSS.

“We need to change our mindset to use the OSS,” he said.

Rizwan Rahman said DCCI will work to disseminate the positive features of OSS to its members as well as  to the business                community to make it familiar. He requested the BIDA to develop a promotional video tutorial on the OSS and then upload it on the social media for greater reach.

DCCI senior vice-president Arman Haque said the OSS should be managed centrally like national single window.

According to him, more service should be added to the OSS with a view to reducing cost of doing business to create a business friendly environment in Bangladesh.

If the foreign investors get maximum benefit out of the OSS, then this will attract more inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI), he said.

BIDA executive member Mohsina Yasmin, DCCI vice-president Monowar Hossain and members of DCCI were also present on the occasion.
