Mobile court fine shops, factories Tk 5.80 lakh in Khulna

KHULNA: A mobile court here on Monday fined sweetmeat shops and bread factories Taka 5.80 lakh for preparing and selling adulterated food items during the holy month of Ramadan.

A special mobile court conducted the drives from yesterday morning to afternoon in four shops, factories under Sonadanga and Sadar Police Station in the city, reports BSS.

Executive Magistrate of Khulna district administration Muhammad Al Amin led the drive. Company commander of RAB-6, representative of BSTI, sanitary inspector of Bagerhat health complex and members of Khulna Metropolitan Police were present during the operation.

During the drive, the court realized Taka 5.80 lakh as fine from the authorities of M/s Ismail Food, New Ratan Chanachur factory and Satkhira Ghosh dairy in Sonadanga area and Jadob Ghosh dairy in Sadar thana area in the city for selling adulterated food items and failing to show Certification Marks (CM) licenses, said Executive Magistrate Al Amin.

“Legal action will be taken against those who are responsible for price hike of essentials during the month of Ramadan,” he said.

“We are trying to discourage traders not to hike the prices of commodities and to produce food maintaining hygienic environment,” he added.

Similar drives will be conducted in the coming days to check adulteration and contamination in food, the executive magistrate said.
