A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim in a case filed against him on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 1.69 crore.

Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-10 passed the order rejecting his discharge petition in the case.

Shahed, now in jail custody, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after the court read out the charges to him during the charge framing.

The court also fixed May 20 to start recording deposition of witnesses of the case.

On March 1 last year, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwary filed the case against Shahed with its Dhaka Integrated Office-1 on charges of amassing the Tk 1.69 crore illegal wealth.

After an investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet to the court against Shahed in the case on February 2.
