The driver of the covered van who knocked down three bikers in the capital’s Uttara area on Thursday was arrested on Friday.

A team of RAB-1 and -8 jointly captured the driver, Mohammad Bashir, 25, son of Mohammad Nasir of Bhola, from Baluchar in Lalmohon of Bhola.

Commanding Officer of RAB-1 Lt Col Abdullah Al Momen told this to the Daily Sun on Saturday.

A driving licence, a mobile phone, Tk 1,750 and a wallet were seized from him, said the officer.

On April 14, three bikers – Enamul Huq, Hanufa and Anik – were killed as the covered van ran them over in the capital’s Uttara area.

The RAB officer said that the arrestee had no driving licence to operate heavy vehicles. He had a driving licence for motorcycle and private car, which expired in 2021.

He said that Bashir had been driving the covered van for the last four years.

During preliminary interrogation, the driver said that the owner of the covered van is Jakir Hossain. After the accident, Jakir has gone into hiding. “We are trying to arrest him,” said the RAB official.
