Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan’s hockey forward Shamim earned a maiden call for the Bangladesh national team’s training camp for the upcoming two major international events – Asian Games qualifying tournament and Asia Cup Hockey.
Shamim was included in the place of Rajib Das who didn’t get a release from his Air Force service team, confirmed team manager Tareq A Adel to The Daily Sun on Wednesday. The debutant reported to the camp along with other 34 players on Tuesday and took part in two sessions under the interim head coach Iman Gobinathan Krishnamurthy at BKSP on Wednesday.
“The players participated in two major competitions within two months and now they have to make preparations for two back-to-back major competitions. The upcoming competitions are important for Bangladesh because these will help to up their world ranking,” head coach Iman Gobinathan said.
The Asian Games 2022 qualifiers will take place from May 6-15 in Thailand and Asia Cup from May 23 to June 1 in Indonesia. This year, the top four teams from the qualifiers will get a chance to play in the main stage of the Asian Games scheduled to be held from September 10-25 in China.
Bangladesh ended the runners-up in the Asian Games 2018 qualifiers after conceding a 0-2 goals defeat to the hosts Oman.
