Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam on Tuesday said lack of coordination among different departments of the government dealing with transportation, urban planning and traffic management issues is responsible for traffic snarl-up in the capital.

“We have caused severe traffic congestion in the capital by constructing buildings and establishments in an unplanned manner. We have to work in coordinated way to get rid of the nuisance,” he said at an MoU signing ceremony between DNCC and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) at Gulshan-2 Nagar Bhaban.

Mayor Atiqul requested the departments involved in traffic management, transportation and land development sectors not to implement development projects haphazardly.

He said they will widen the intersection at Mohammadpur BRTC depot area as the narrow intersection put obstacles on the way of traffic coming from Basila, Asad Avenue and Dhanmondi sides.

As per the MoU, BRTC will hand over 6.15 decimal land to DNCC for widening the intersection.

High-ranking officials of BRTC and DNCC were present on the occasion.
