Sadia Afrin Harisa, hailing from Banaripara of Barishal, has come out successful in the MBBS admission test. But she was in a fix if she could arrange the money required for admission and other relevant purposes.
Bashundhara Group has been moved by the uncertainty looming large over the great prospect of Harisa. The country’s largest industrial conglomerate has taken the responsibility for the study of Harisa and her three sisters.
Imdadul Haq Milan, noted novelist and director of East West Media Group Limited, took necessary step to stand by the family of Harisa.
Bashundhara Group provided the family of Harisa with rice, lentil, potato, onion, garlic, edible oil, soap, shampoo, sugar, date and watermelon as gift. The items will cover an entire month of the family.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Banaripara Ripon Kumar Saha handed over the items to the family members at their house in Banaripara municipality area.
Golam Saleh Manju Molla, freedom fighter, former municipal mayor and president of upazila Awami League; ATM Mostafa Sarder, president of Banaripara Girls’ High School managing committee and joint general secretary of upazila Awami League; and Nurul Huda, vice-chairman of Upazila Parishad, were, among others, present.
Harisa is the third daughter of Md Mizanur Rahman Hawlader and Razia under ward-4 of Banaripara municipality. The couple and other people of the area have heaved a sigh of relief following assistance provided by Bashundhara Group for the family.
Harisa has obtained 278 marks out of 300 in the medical admission test and qualified for admission at Rajshahi Medical College. But her rickshaw-puller father is unable to bear the cost of medical education.
She achieved President’s Gold Medal by securing the first position in a contest marking golden jubilee of Bangladesh Television in 2014 and National Children's Award Competition in 2018.
Besides, Harisa stood third in extempore speech on a topic titled ‘Bangabandhu and Bangladesh’ at the national level in 2017, second in talent hunt at the divisional level twice in 2017 and 2018.
She came first in BFF-Samakal science debate contest and essay competition. She was awarded as the best student in the district and divisional categories in 2018.
Harisa obtained GPA-5 in Primary Education Completion (PEC), Junior School Certificate (JSC), Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations.
Although she could not afford good food and dresses, she secured the success in all the examinations by dint of hard study and firm determination. Now, she would like to become a doctor to serve the people, especially poor people.
Speaking to the correspondent, Harisa said her mother was admitted to Barishal hospital in 2014. Harisa was a sixth grader at that time. Her mother did not afford ICU and returned home without better treatment, which shocked her very much.
Harisa’s elder sister Farzana Akter Sathi is a student of MA final year at Barishal BM College, middle sister Sharmin Akter is a BA second year student at Banaripara College and youngest sister Habina is a student of Class-IX in Banaripara High School.
