The Char Biswas union is the southeast of Galachipa upazila under Patuakhali. The union almost isolated from the upazila sadar. Waterway is the only mean of communications. People have to cross the eight kilometer distance of Tetulia river by trawler or speedboat. The river becomes so desperate in the rainy season that people make movement at risk.

Recently, Shuvo Sangha, a social organisation of Bashundhara Group's leading Bengali newspaper Kaler Kantho, made a new committee in remote union of Char Biswas. It also organised a gala cultural ceremony on the premises of Char Biswas Janata High School. More than 100 students of two high schools and five primary schools took part in the easy and poetry writing competition. Apart from children, their guardians were present at the programme.

Md Forkan Kabir, Principal of Galachipa Govt College, graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Tofazzel Hossain Babul, chairman Char Biswas union, presided over the event which was attended by Md Babul Akter, acting principal of Hazi Keram Ali Degree College, and Mir Md Ibrahim Khalil, headmaster of Janata High School, as special guests.

In Ka section, Ayesha Siddika stood first writing poetry, Tasmia Akter Yasmin second and Md Jahid third. Sanjida secured first position in easy writing competition, Mafia second and Zafrin third position. Chadni became first in poetry recitation, Jannatul Tayeba second and Masum third.

In the Kha section, Parvez stood first in easy writing, Lamia Mitu second and Yasmin third.

A 35-member union committee of Shuvo Sangha was constituted with Md Mizanur Rahman president and Jewel Hawlader general secretary.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Forkan Kabir said “Shuvo Sangha is working relentlessly to unite people with the spirit of the Liberation War. As part of it, we have gathered at the islanded and remote union Char Biswas. The children have responded to our call. It made me overwhelmed. We will organise debate, drawing and other cultural competitions in the future. So, we have be prepared from now.”

About the committee, he said the members of the newly formed body to work together for the welfare of the people. He suggested the committee aspirants to extend all-out support to the present members as they will get such chance in the future.

Tofazzel Hossain Babul, chairman of Char Biswas union, said Shuvo Sangha is not confined to its slogan “Sobar Kaje Pashe Thaka (To stand beside all in their noble deeds). Rather, the organisation translates the slogan into work.

“We welcome Shuvo Sangha for expanding its activities into the remote islanded areas. Today, let us swear to team up with the organisation in great works,” he opined.
