Jatiya Ganasangeet Utsab at Shilpakala

The third edition of Jatiya Ganasangeet Utsab is underway at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy  (BSA) in the capital. The inauguration ceremony of the festival was held at the Open Stage of the academy on Tuesday.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the event as the chief guest. Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation Chairman and BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky and renowned ‘Ganasangeet’ singer Sadhan Ghosh were present as the special guests at the programme with Bangladesh Ganasangeet Samannay Parishad acting president Mizanur Rahman in the chair.

Jatiya Ganasangeet Utsab Udjapan Committee convener Ghulam Quddus and its member secretary Fakir Sirajul Islam spoke at the programme.

Over 900 Ganasangeet singers from from across the country are participating at the four-day festival. The festival is featuring songs, a seminar and dance music.

On the opening day, artistes performed a number of songs written by Ajit Roy, Fakir Alamgir and Sheikh Lutfar Rahman. Artistes of Spandan, a dance troupe, staged a group dance music at the event.

Besides, singers Timir Nandi, Alak Dasgupta, Sreyashi Roy, Farhana Rahaman Kanta rendered songs in the inaugural day.

On Wednesday, the second day of the festival, artistes performed songs written by Rajanikanta Sen, Mukunda Das, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Hemanga Biswas and others.

Dance troupe Dhrity Nrityalaya also presented a dance music. 

The event will also feature a seminar titled ‘The Role of Ganasangeet in Building an Equal and Harmonious Society’ at the Seminar Room of the BSA at 10:30am tomorrow.

The first Jatiya Ganasangeet Utsab was held in 2016 and the second edition of the festival was held in 2019. This year’s festival has been dedicated to the late renowned Ekushey Padak-winning Ganasangeet singer Fakir Alamgir.

The festival starts at 4:00pm every day and will end on April 1.
