Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on agriculture Begum Matia Chowdhury on Wednesday called for giving more emphasis on agriculture to ensure smooth supply of raw materials to the industry.
"We need industrialization for creation of more jobs, but for its raw materials we have to depend on agriculture. So, we have to give more attention to agriculture to ensure smooth supply of raw materials to the industry."
ICAB President Shahadat Hossain briefed Matia about the activities of ICAB and its initiatives taken for the development of the financial eco-system of the country.
He said ICAB has been working with the government, especially regarding VAT and Tax administration.
He demanded for more allocation in the upcoming national budget for development of agriculture as the sector contributes 40 percent of total GDP of the country.
He also demanded for involvement of CAs in government’s revenue expenditure management.
ICAB chief executive officer (CEO) Shubhashish Bose and Vice President Fouzia Haque FCA also spoke.
