At least three people were killed and two others injured in a gunfight between two armed groups at Paindangpara in Rajsthali upazila of Rangamati on Tuesday.
Police and locals said a group of 7-8 Mugh Party members were going to Kechipara after a regular patrol on Gaindya Union in the morning.
The two groups fired bullets for nearly 30 minutes. Later, local people found three bodies lying on the spot. Two others were injured in the gun battle.
They said all the three deceased were members of Mugh Party. However, their names could not be ascertained as locals could not identify them.
Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Saleh said, "I heard news that three people were being killed in the shelling in Gaindya Union.”
“We are trying to know the details. As it is a remote area, I have not been able to go there yet due to security reasons.”
Before the 2018 general election, a section of the Arakan Liberation Party, an armed group in Myanmar, emerged as Mugh Party in Bandarban.
