Bangladesh government has signed an agreement with a South Korean company to construct a much-expected bridge over the Payra River in Patuakhali.
The move came to fulfil the promise made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to a schoolboy to construct a bridge in his locality after he wrote a letter to her.
The bridge which will be built over the river will connect Kachua-Betagi-Patuakhali road and Lohaliya-Kalaiya road.
The schoolboy, Shirshendu Biswas, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, requesting her to construct a bridge over the Payra River in 2016.
The prime minister assured the boy of constructing a bridge over the river soon and she directed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to this end.
Speaking as the chief guest, Quader said the Payra Bridge is set to be constructed at a cost of Tk 1,042 crore and is expected to be completed by 2025.
“The response of the Prime Minister to a child has proved that Sheikh Hasina is the symbol of Bangalees’ confidence and it will remain as an instance in the history of Bangladesh,” he said.
