10 women, 3 cos receive ‘BASIS Luna Shamsuddoha Award’

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) honored 10 women and 3 companies with 'BASIS Luna Shamsuddoha Award’ to celebrate women at work and recognise womanhood in the society.

BASIS organised the event at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden on Sunday to commemorate the contribution of Luna Shamsuddoha, a leading software entrepreneur in the country.

This year, 10 women have been awarded for their contribution to their respective areas.

Geeteara Safya Choudhury, chairperson of Adcomm Ltd, a leading advertising and communication company in the country, also former Industrial Adviser to the caretaker government, was given the lifetime achievement award for her outstanding professional achievements. 

Other recipients of the award are: Zuena Aziz, principal coordinator (SDG Affairs), Prime Minister's Office, Saida Muna Tasneem, professional diplomat and Bangladesh high commissioner to the United Kingdom, Amena Begum, deputy inspector general of Police (DIG) of Bangladesh Police, Dr Haseena Khan, microbiologist and professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka, Sonia Bashir Kabir, founder and managing partner of SBK Tech Ventures and SBK Foundation, Dr Rawshan Arra Khanam, consultant of Department of Respiratory Medicine, United Hospital, and Dr Sejunti Saha, director of Child Health Research Foundation, Bangladesh.

Besides, Genex Infosys has been awarded for highest women employment in BPO company category, BJIT for highest women employment in software company category and social enterprise Dnet for highest women employment by male-female ratio category.

At the ceremony, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was present as the chief guest while Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Private Industry and Investment Adviser to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman, and State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak were present as the special guests.

High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Lilly Nicholls, Ambassador of Switzerland Nathalie Chuard, Managing Director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited Rupali Chowdhury, and Executive Director of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) Syeda Rizwana Hasan were the guests of honor at the event.

BASIS President Russell T Ahmed presided over the event.

Mentionable, Luna Shamsuddoha was the chairperson of software firm Dohatec New Media. She was the first woman to be the chairman of state-owned Janata Bank Limited and the founding president of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT). She was also a former board member and director of BASIS executive council.
