BASIS introduces Luna Shamsuddoha Award for women

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) is introducing the first edition of a new award titled “BASIS Luna Shamsuddoha Award 2022” this month.

This aims to celebrate women at work and recognise womanhood in the society.

The award is titled in the name of Luna Shamsuddoha, a pioneering Information and Communications Technology (ICT) entrepreneur of Bangladesh, who was the chairman of software firm Dohatec New Media.

She was the first woman to be chairman of the state-owned Janata Bank Limited and the founding president of Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT).

 She was also a former board member and director of BASIS Executive Council.

To commemorate her invaluable contribution to the ICT industry, BASIS is launching this exclusive award programme.

The award launching programme will be held at the Radisson Blu Dhaka.

Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is expected to attend as the chief guest.

Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni, Private Industry and Investment Affairs Adviser to Prime Minister Salman F Rahman and State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak will be present as the special guests.

High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Lilly Nicholls, Ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh Nathalie Chuard, Managing Director of Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited Rupali Chowdhury and Executive Director of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) Syeda Rizwana Hasan will be the guests of honour.

Distinguished women from all walks of life are expected to attend the award programme to celebrate women at work.

In the spirit of the event, a panel discussion will be held on “Women’s Contribution in Economy and Participation.”

BASIS will present the award to 10 individual women to honour their excellence in their respective fields of work.

Moreover, a lifetime achievement award will be presented to a special person to recognise her life and work which continues to inspire millions of women in Bangladesh.

Furthermore, two BASIS member companies will also get awarded at the programme in two categories - highest female employment and highest male-female employment ratio.
