CHATTOGRAM: Two youth including a Chittagong University (CU) student were arrested on charge of attempting to give proxy for another at a recruitment examination in the port city on Friday.

The arrestees were identified as Jalal Uddin, 24, student of Anthropology Department of CU, and one Abdul Kader Rimon, 25. Jalal appeared in the examination for giving proxy on behalf of a candidate named Haider Rashid.

Sources said recruitment examination for the post of office assistant for Revenue department of Chattogram Deputy Commissioner’s Office took place at various examination centres in the city.

ON-duty Executive Magistrate Ashraful Alam noticed dissimilarities in a candidate’s appearance and his photo at attendance sheet at Chattogram City Corporation Municipality Model School and College centre during the examination. Upon checking various documents, the magistrate revealed that Jalal replaced the photo of the actual candidate by editing it on the admit card.

Later, Jalal admitted that he appeared in the examination in exchange of Tk 5,000 through a syndicate.

Magistrate Ashraful said acting on his statement, they conducted drives in city’s New Market and Reazuddin Bazar areas and arrested Rimon, another member of the syndicate.
