Speakers at a workshop on Thursday said that farmers will get more benefits by increasing the production and supply of high-quality delicious papaya.
They made the comment at a workshop on modern techniques of commercial papaya cultivation at Madhupur Upazila in Tangail on Wednesday.
Md Ahsanul Bashar, deputy director of Department of Agricultural Extension, Tangail spoke at the event as the chief guest while Krishibid Mahmudul Hasan, additional deputy director (Horticulture), Krishibid Md Sirajul Islam, head of Agribusiness, AgroSAL Limited, Md Abdur Rahim, chairman of Arankhola Union Parishad, were present as the special guests.
The workshop was chaired by agriculturist Sakura Nammi, Agricultural Extension Officer at Madhupur.
In the workshop, the speakers stressed the need for increasing papaya production and using high quality seedlings in commercial papaya cultivation.
The experts in the workshop presented various aspects of high-quality papaya cultivation using modern technologies.
In his speech Md Sirajul Islam said AgroSAL is emphasising contract farming and safe technology-based farming methods engaging experienced farmers to expand the export-oriented market of ripe papaya.
Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension Md Ahsanul Bashar highlighted the importance of improved quality seedlings which can tackle the problem of virus outbreak and seed-borne diseases.
Farmers who took part in the workshop shared their experience on papaya cultivation.
