Speakers in a programme have opined that there is no alternative to providing training and raising aware-ness among the people about tackling natural disaster.

They came up with the opinion in a round table dis-cussion organised by na-tional daily Kaler Kantho at East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) confer-ence room at Bashundhara Residential Area in the cap-ital on Tuesday.

The speakers said there are around 425,000 commit-tees which are needed to be activated and the people from the local community should be empowered by accommodating them.

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman said the government will take all necessary measures so that they can tackle even Category-5 cyclone.

“Category-5 cyclone comes with gusts more than 280km/h. We have to be prepared to fight such powerful cyclones,” he said.
