Swapnadal stages ‘Helen Keller’ marking Int’l Women’s Day

Theatre troupe Swapnadal staged its acclaimed monodrama ‘Helen Keller’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday, marking International Women’s Day.

The play has been written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and directed by Zahid Repon. Juana Sobnom portrayed the character of Helen Keller.

The production depicts the life, works, dreams, struggle and philosophy of the legend and ‘Wonder of the World’ Helen Keller. She was a deaf-dumb-blind person, but able to overcome all obstacles by her extreme self-confidence and also by the extraordinary support of her teacher Anne Sullivan.

Before staged the play, Swapnadal honoured theatre activist Asma Akhter Liza with ‘International Women’s Day Award 2022’ for her contributions to theatre.

Earlier this year, theatre personalities Ferdousi Mazumder, Shimul Yousuf, Lucky Enam, Nuna Afroz, Irin Parveen Lopa, Sadhana Ahmed, Tropa Mazumder, Rokeya Rafiq Baby, Momena Chowdhury honoured with this award.

Swapnadal has been observing International Women’s Day organising special programme since 2012.
