Pacific Jeans chairman Nasir Uddin dies

CHATTOGRAM: Pacific Jeans Group Chairman Md Nasir Uddin passed away on Monday afternoon. He was 71.

Nasir Uddin breathed his last at a hospital in Bangkok around 3:15pm. His body will be brought to Bangladesh tomorrow.

Sources said Nasir had been suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment at the hospital for long.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Nasir Uddin.

In a message of condolence, she prayed for the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan in a condolence message termed Nasir as one of the pioneers, mentor, icon of vision, innovation and changes in the industry.

Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) former President lawmaker MA Latif, incumbent President Mahbubul Alam, Senior Vice President Tarafdar Ruhul Amin, Chattogram Press Club President Ali Abbas and General Secretary Chowdhury Farid also conveyed condolence at the death of the business icon.

Some 35,000 workers are working at eight industries developed by Nasir in his life. He also received different prizes for his outstanding contributions to the readymade garment sector.
