A total of 51 shops and five houses were gutted in two different fire incidents in Khulna and Brahmanbaria districts.
Out of 51 shops 30 shops were gutted by fire at a local market of Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria district while 21 shops and five houses in Khulna.
Md Ramzan Ali Howlader, joint secretary of Rupsha Wholesale Kitchen Market Traders Association, said the blaze started at a cork sheet warehouse around 10:45am and soon engulfed the adjoining 21 shops and five houses beside the market.
The fire originated from a cigarette carelessly thrown around a cork sheet warehouse, he said.
Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Parliament member of Khulna-2 Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel and other government officials visited the spot.
In Brahmanbaria, A total of thirty shops have been burnt to ashes in a devastating fire in Kasba upazila of the district.
The fire broke out at Kuti Bazar in Kuti Union of the upazila on Friday (February 25) at 10:30 pm.
Thirty shops including rice warehouses, libraries and oil mills, were burnt. The extent of the damage is not yet known and the origin of the fire was not immediately clear, Khalid added.
