At least three people were killed and three others injured in road accidents in Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.

In Chattogram, an engineer was killed in a head-on collision between a human hauler and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Raozan upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The ill-fated was identified as Papon Barua alias Shakil, 45, son of late Sangha Badi Barua of Baghoan union under the upazila. He was an information technology (IT) engineer and running an IT firm in the city’s Akbar Shah area.

The accident took place when Papon was going to his workplace by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from his village home, which left the engineer dead on the spot, said Officer in-Charge (OC) of Raozan Police Station Abdullah Al Harun.

On receiving information, police recovered the body from the spot and seized the vehicles, said the OC.

In Cox’s Bazar, two people were killed and three others injured when a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto rickshaw and a covered van in Maricha check post area under Ukhia upazila of the district on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Imam Hossain, 35, resident of Ukhia T&T area and CNG passenger Nazir Ahmed, 60, resident of the same area, reports BSS.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ramu Tulabagan Crossing Highway Police Station Abdur Rauf said a CNG-run auto rickshaw carrying passengers heading towards Cox’s Bazar collided head-on with a covered van coming from opposite direction, leaving a passenger of the auto rickshaw dead on the spot and four others, including the CNG driver seriously injured.

The injured were taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared CNG driver dead.

Two vehicles were seized, the OC added.
