Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina distributed the Bangla Academy Literary Award to 15 recipients in 11 categories at the inaugural ceremony of Amar Ekushey Book Fair on Tuesday for their contributions to Bangla literature.

The Prime Minister joined the ceremony virtually from her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital while State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid handed over the awards on behalf of her.

Asad Mannan and Bimal Guha received the award for Poetry, Jharna Rahman and Bishwajit Chowdhury for Fiction, Aminur Rahman and Rafik-um-Munir Chowhdhury for Translation, Sadhana Ahmed for Drama, Rafikur Rashid for Children’s Literature, and Panna Kaiser for Liberation War-related research.

Besides, Harun-ur-Rashid got the award for Bangabandhu related research, Shubhagata Chowdhury for Science Fiction or Environmental Science, Sufia Khatun and Haider Akbar Khan Rano for Autobiography or Travelogue, Aminur Rahman Sultan for Folklore and Hosenuddin Hossain for Essay or Research.

The Bangla Academy Literary Award 2021 was announced on January 23 last.

Introduced in 1960, the Bangla Academy Literary Award is awarded to individuals in different categories every year for their contributions to Bangla literature.
