A Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Friday that they are planning to hold their new project ‘Bangladesh Tigers’ camp in Chattogram as their new indoor of the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is expected to be completed in the next couple of months.

According to the official, the Bangladesh Tigers will be launched in Bogura on February 25 but he also insisted that they’re mulling to take it to Chattogram as the facilities are expected to be world-class.

“We can surely have our Bangladesh Tigers programme in Chattogram in the coming days,” Bangladesh Tigers Chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed told The Daily Sun.

“We have planned to start our program in Bogura on February 25 but in the coming days, we want to take our programme to other regions as well.

“I’m aware that we’ll be able to use the indoor facility of the ZACS in the coming months as we are quite close to completing it. We can take our programme there when it is completed during the offseason and train our boys,” he added.

The BCB brought two synthetic turfs from Australia while they’re expecting to receive two more turfs from England by mid-February.

“The four turfs will be different altogether,” said an official of the ZACS.

“One turf will be spin-oriented while the other turf will encourage pace and the other two turfs will likely be flat and sporting wickets,” he added.

The place of the indoor facility had been fixed by the consultations of the BCB and the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) while the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) will build the academy.

As per the design, the academy will be built on the northern flank of the stadium and once it is built, around 40 players can be accommodated at the academy.

Along with that, there will also be arrangements and facilities for the backroom coaching staff in the indoor.

The CDA is compensating the BCB by building the indoor after they needed to open an alternative route enabling people to easily come out of Chattogram city and be connected to the newly developed highway on the western side of the stadium.

They had to conduct several feasibility studies for it but finally, it was decided that the construction of a flyover in Sagorika would be the best for them to create the connectivity.

As a part of the plan to open a new route, the previous indoor of the ZACS was demolished.

The BCB officials said that they are hoping elite cricketers from the Chattogram region - Tamim Iqbal, Mominul Haque, Yasir Ali and Nayeem Hassan will also be benefited from the new indoor facility.
