Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has termed the ‘Appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act-2022’ as a milestone in the country’s history in ensuring the people’s voting rights.
“With the enactment of the law, Bangladesh will go one step forward to institutionalise democracy,” he said.
In his speech, AL general secretary, on behalf of the party, extended his heartfelt greetings to all the members of parliament as the bill was passed in accordance with the intention of the constitution given by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman fifty years ago.
Reiterating the party’s committed to ensuring democracy and the people’s rights to vote as per the country’s Constitution, Obaidul Quader said the Awami League government has taken all necessary measures to make the EC neutral and powerful.
“Every step has been taken to make the EC independent, neutral and strong like other democratic countries of the world,” he said. Quader said a vested quarter has termed the law unacceptable for its political purposes only.
“Secretary general of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has given a mischievous statements about it. However, such arrogant remarks were expected from the party or individuals as they spend billions of dollars against the people of the country, recruit lobbyists, spread propaganda and hatch conspiracy against the country,” he said.
The AL general secretary also termed Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s statement as a mockery to the democracy of Bangladesh, all the MPs, country’s Constitutions and rule of law of the nation.
