A total of 16 Bangladeshi weightlifters - eight men and eight women - were selected for the Singapore Weightlifting International Championship - a qualification event for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022.
The selected weightlifters are - Mabia Akter Simanto (64kg), Smrity Akter (55kg), Farjana Akter Riya (59kg), Marjia Akter Ekra (49kg), Rokeya Sultana Sathy (71kg), Monira Kazi (76kg), Tania Khatun (87kg) and Sohayba Rahman Rafa (87kg) in the women’s category.
Five officials - Anwar Hossain (coach), Biswas Anisur Rahman (coach), Mohyuddin Ahmed (ITO), Bidduth Kumar Roy (coach) and Sultana Shahria (coach/ITO) will accompany the players for the Singapore Championship.
The qualifying event will take place on February 26-27 in Singapore while the Commonwealth Games will take place in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.
Top weightlifters of the qualifiers will get direct entry into the main event.
The Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation earlier arranged a two-day trial to finalise the participants of the qualifying event.
