CHATTOGRAM: Bangladesh Railway has cancelled the schedule of 16 trains of Chattogram and Dhaka for indefinite period due to corona pandemic and shortage of crew members from Wednesday.

Earlier, the crew members, including loco-master and guard, under the banner of Bangladesh Railway Running Staff Okiya Parishad announced not to work more than eight hours.

Divisional Mechanical Engineer (DME-Loco) Md Wahidur Rahman sent an office order to the CRB Control Room in this regard on Tuesday night.

The trains schedule of which were cancelled include 10 up-down from Dhaka and six from Chattogram, said the sources concerned.

The trains of Chattogram ply between the city and Chattogram University, said sources.

On the other hand, the Okiya Parishad has been staging demonstration demanding cancellation of a gazette of Finance Ministry issued earlier regarding mileage complexities.

They also announced to observe work abstention if the problem is not solved by January 30.

They remained rigid on not to work more than eight hours. Schedule of the trains was cancelled as the crewmembers refrained from work during the ‘under-rest’ period, said the sources.

However, Railway (East) General Manager Jahangir Alam couldn’t be reached over phone for comment in this regard.
