Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir has lent a helping hand to newspaper hawkers and agents by making a large donation.
“As you (hawkers) carry the newspaper to readers overcoming hurdles, you will get help during any emergency. Bashundhara Group will stand by hawkers and agents as long as the conglomerate exists,” he said during a views-exchange meeting with hawker associations’
He further said that hawkers and agents are like his family members. During the meeting, the hawker leaders portrayed many challenges they face while carrying out their duties.
Leaders of Dhaka Sangbadpatra Hawker Bahumukhi Samabay Samity, Sangbadpatra Hawkers' Kalyan Bahumukhi Samabay Samity, Patrapatrika Bitarankari Bahumukhi Samabay Samity, Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Agent Association and Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Paribahan Samity received the donation.
Besides, the Bashundhara Group MD made an announcement to provide a Tk 100,000 support for the family of each hawker if any newspaper vendor dies. He also assured them of providing treatment facilities.
East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) Director and noted novelist Imdadul Haq Milan, MD’s Chief Coordinator Mohammed Golam and Head of Circulation Department Billal Hossain Montu were also present on the occasion.
Abdus Salam, who earns his living by selling newspapers in the capital, became emotional after the announcement.
Dhaka Sangbadpatra Hawker Bahumukhi Samabay Samity President Mohammad Abdul Mannan said by making the announcement Bashundhara Group MD has won the hearts of 15 thousand hawkers who never received such support from anyone.
Sangbadpatra Agent Association General Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique said Bashundhara Group has set an example by extending support to hawkers.
Bangladesh Sangbadpatra Paribahan Samity President Aktar Hossain Rintu said hawkers and agents will try to provide better service for Bashundhara Group.
