All demands of students to be met: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said on Wednesday that all demands of students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) will

be satisfied.

Terming the police attack on the SUST students ‘unfortunate’, she said, “Many students were injured, which made them agitated. We are also in favour of all the demands. We will solve the problem.” The minister made the remarks at a press conference at her residence in the capital on Wednesday evening.

Dipu Moni said, “We will look into how the student movement turned into a one-point one. Besides this, if there is any negligence in the part of the university administration in this incident, appropriate action will be taken.”

She said, “Due to the continuous movement students have been upset, exhausted. Let them recover a little. If they say they want to sit down after few days, then so be it. This movement is an expression of their grievances. Where the main problem is, we students, teachers, administration, we will all address it together.”

Responding to a question, the education minister said the resignation of the SUST VC was another matter. He was appointed by the President. If he resigns, the problem will not be solved. One VC will go, another VC will come. Problems will remain in place of problems.”

Describing the students’ movement as ‘peaceful’, the she said, “We have no division here. We are all in one side, the problem on the other. We say, problem solving is very important.”

“The problem needs to be solved so that the learning environment of the students in the universities is healthy and sound so that they can study,” she added.

“What has happened before, has already happened. We want to move forward. We do not want the students to lose their education. The students would not be harmed due to the case.”
