CHATTOGRAM: ‘International Customs Day-2022’ was observed amid festivity in the port city like elsewhere of the world on Wednesday.

A seminar was organised at the Chattogram Customs House Auditorium marking the day in the afternoon.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member (Taxes Appeal and Exemption) Md Abdul Majid was the chief guest at the seminar while Tax Commissioner Syed Mohammad Abu Daud, Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mahbubul Alam, Chattogram Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Khalilur Rahman and Chattogram Women Chamber  of Commerce and Industry President Monwara Hakim Ali were present as the special guests.

Customs, Excise and Vat Training Academy Director General Md Mahbubuzzaman presided over the seminar titled “Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem.”

Chattogram Customs House Commissioner Mohammad Fakhrul Alam delivered the welcome speech while Additional Commissioner Dr Abu Nur Rashed Ahmed presented the key-note paper.

Speakers at the seminar said Customs play a significant role in the international trade of export and import.

Smuggling and money laundering can be resist following spread of data culture through digital transformation, they observed.

Officials and representatives of the Chattogram Customs House, Excise and Vat, C&F Agents and Shipping Agents Associations also attended the seminar.
