CHATTOGRAM: The investigator of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on Tuesday submitted the final report in the former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case filed by her father.

Inspector Abu Jafar Md Omar Faruk of the PBI Chattogram Metropolitan unit submitted the report to the prosecution section of the court in the afternoon.

Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed the case accusing eight persons including Mitu’s husband and former SP Babul Akter with the city’s Panchlaish Police Station last year.

Inspector Abu Jafar said two cases were filed in connection with the murder and a court ordered reinvestigation of the case filed by Babul in this connection rejecting a final report earlier.

“We submitted the final report in the Mosharraf’s case following observations of the court on Tuesday,” he said.

Another court on Tuesday rejected a bail petition submitted for Babul in case filed by him over the same murder.

Chattogram Metropolitan Session Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman rejected the bail petition after hearing on it, said Public Prosecutor Md Fakhruddin Ahmed.

On January 9, another court ordered to show Babul arrested in the same case following a petition filed by the PBI.

Mentionable, miscreants chopped and shot Mitu to death while she was escorting her son to his school bus at the city’s GEC intersection, near her residence at OR Nizam Road, at around 6:30am on June 5 in 2016.

PIB got order for investigating the case in January last year and gave the breakthrough arresting the plaintiff as prime accused.

Though PBI submitted its final report to a court in the case filed by Babul himself, the court ordered for further investigation rejecting the report.
