Corona infection casesare increasing alarmingly as the total number of infection cases has crossed 17 lakh in the country.

According to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 18 more Covid-19 patients died and 16,033 infection cases were recorded in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

The number of total infections has risen to 17,15,997 with the overall positivity rate of 14.05 percent. Some 49,492 samples were tested in the last 24 hours to detect the infection cases.

The daily infection rate was reported 32.40 percent in the country in last 24 hours.

The national death toll has increased to 28,256 with a case fatality rate of 1.65 percent. Some 1,095 more Covid-19 patients recovered in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, raising the total number of recoveries to 15,58,954. The recovery rate reached 90.85 percent.

The country's maiden case was reported on 8 March in 2020 and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March of the same year.

Meanwhile, Health and Family Welfare Minister ZahidMaleque at a virtual meeting with private medical association on Tuesday said around 85 percent of the current corona patients are unvaccinated.

Mentioning that around 14 crore doses of the vaccine have already been administered in the country, he said the government aims to bring more three crore people under the vaccination soon.

“The coronavirus infection has been increasing  quickly in the country as the infection rate has increased to 32 percent. It is alarming for us,” he said.

The health minister also said after genome sequencing it has been found that 70%-80% of the infection cases are Omicron now.
