Mild to moderate cold wave is likely to sweep across the country soon after the rain and thundershower.

Rain coupled with fog and cold wind is disrupting normal life and causing immense sufferings to people.

“Rain and thundershower occurred across the country on Sunday while rain may increase on Monday,” said Abdul Hamid meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

“Temperature may decline soon after the rain and a mild to moderate cold wave may sweep across the country, especially northern and some southern regions,” he said.

Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal & Dhaka divisions and at a few places over Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions, forecasted BMD.

“Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country during midnight to morning. Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may fall by (2-3)°C over the country,” the official said.  The lowest temperature was recorded at 11.5 degree Celsius in Shitakundu and Srimangal while the lowest temperature of Dhaka was 15.5 degree Celsius on Sunday, the Met office said.

Cold spell caused cold-related diseases, including pneumonia, asthma and respiratory complications across the country, especially in the northern, northeastern and southern districts.

The number of patients with cough, asthma and other cold-related diseases has marked a sharp rise in different parts of the country, hospital sources said.

Normal life and business activities were crippled due to the bone-biting cold. Day labours and slum-dwellers are suffering much for shortages of warm clothes. They are also staying idle at home due to crisis of works.
