Some steps of the Mugda footbridge, which connects the Kamalapur railway station in the capital, have remained missing for long, posing danger to its users.
Thousands of people, especially passengers of train and schoolchildren, use the footbridge everyday with risk of accident.
During a recent visit to the area, this correspondent has seen that local people fixed bamboo in place of the missing steps.
While talking to the Daily Sun, DSCC Executive Engineer of zone-2 Saiful Islam said,
“The steps of the footbridge are missing because some thieves stole it. We replaced steps many times in the last few years but the thieves stole those every time.”
“I know about the condition of the footbridge. We are taking steps to fix it. We have also sought security measures from police to protect it from being stolen,” he also said.
