Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda has expressed frustration over performance of present Commission saying that the body couldn’t conduct acceptable polls due to lack of good will.
“The performance of present election commission is not satisfactory. However, the elections under care-taker government were more acceptable though the process is not well for the political system,” Dr Shamsul Huda said while addressing a debate competition as chief guest on Saturday.
In his speech, former CEC claimed that the proposed draft law for the upcoming election commission has plenty of drawbacks.
“In general, the process dedicates for search committee. The government should engage all leading political parties in the process before finalizing the law. The law should specify the qualification of the commissioners,” he said.
In his speech, DFD chairman Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron claimed none knows about the present status of the process to appoint new Commissioners.
However, citizens have right to know the process, he said.
He proposed the names of Prof Serajul Islam Choudhury, Prof Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Dr ATM Shamsul Huda for upcoming commission.
