Seventeen more died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Saturday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The total number of Covid-19 deaths in the country now stands at 28,209 and the death rate stands at 1.68 percent. Of the 17 deceased, 11 were male and six female.

Of them, one was between 21-30, two between 51-60, six between 61-70, seven between 71-80 and one between 81-90 years old. All of them died while undergoing treatment at hospitals. At least 9,614 new infections were recorded during the period, taking the total number of people infected to 16,74,230.

The positivity rate was found 28.02 percent during the 24 hours period after 34,311 samples were tested at 857 labs across the country while the total positivity rate stands at 13.86 percent.

The test positivity rate on Friday was 28.49% and it was 26.37% on Thursday.

At least 482 Covid-19 patients have recovered during the period, taking the total number of recoveries to 15,56,079 and the recovery rate at 92.94 percent. The country's maiden cases were reported on March 8, 2020 and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18 in the same year.
