Bangladesh U-19 skipper Rakibul Hasan was content with the performance of their bowling unit against Canada but emphasised on improving as a fielding side as well in their next game against UAE today.

The defending champions made a strong comeback in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup as they defeated Canada by eight wickets in their second Group A match in St Kitts on Thursday.

Pacer Ripon Mondol and off-spinner SM Meherob shone with the ball for the junior Tigers as they finished with 4-24 and 4-38 respectively to help Bangladesh bowling out their opponents for 136 runs in 44.3 overs.

Opener Iftakher Hossain then made unbeaten 61 off 89 balls to guide his side home, 141-2, in 30.1 overs. Bangladesh earlier lost to England by seven wickets in their opening match of the tournament.

“I think with the bowling we did well today, which is good for us as a bowling unit. We have been a very good bowling unit since the beginning of our camp, so we are happy with it,” Rakibul said after the match.

The win against Canada eventually made Bangladesh’s last group match against UAE a virtual knockout match as the winner of the encounter will progress to the quarterfinal stage as Group A runners-up.

England have already qualified for the last eight stage as Group A champions after clinching victories in all their three group encounters.

“The last game is very important for us and maybe we need to improve the fielding side. If we want to win this game, we need to field well, so we want to improve our fielding and our other skills as well,” Rakibul added.
