Bashundhara Group, the leading business conglomerate of the country, has continued to bring smile to cold-hit poor people by distributing blankets among them in various parts of the country.
As part of humanitarian gesture, Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan initiated the blanket distribution programme across the country two months ago.
In Daulatpur, 300 distressed people including elderly, widow and disabled received blankets and expressed sigh of relief.
The recipients of the blankets included representatives of 260 families of Ashrayan Project in bordering Pakuria village.
With distribution of blankets in Daulatpur, Bashundhara Group has finished its target to distribute 2,000 blankets in various places in Kushtia district.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Jabbar, AC Land Afroz Shahin, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abdul Hannan, Pragpur Union Parishad chairman Ashrafuzzaman, Kushtia Area Coordinator of TIB Raihanul Islam, among others, were present.
Speaking on the occasion, UNO Abdul Jabbar said people of the Ashrayan Project were suffering due to pinching cold. The local administration tried much to support these people within the budget of the government.
In Assasuni upazila of Satkhira, 300 families of the coastal belt received blankets and expressed happiness.
The blanket distribution programme was held on the premises of Kalibari temple premises at 10am.
Kini Rani Sarkar, an elderly woman, received the blanket and tendered deep gratitude to the Bashundhara Group for standing beside her.
“We live in the midst salty water and much sufferings. None gave us blankets in the past. We pray for gradual development and welfare of the Bashundhara Group taking step to keep us warm,” she said.
In Ishwardi upazila of Pabna, Bashundhara Group distributed blankets among the families of fishermen worst affected by the pinching cold. Representatives of Bashundhara Group reached out to the fishermen by boat Friday morning and presented them with the blankets.
In addition, blankets were distributed among 400 other floating, ultra-poor and destitute of the Ishwardi upazila.
