Cold wave coupled with dense fog is sweeping across the country seriously affecting livelihood of poor and working-class people.
It is also hampering agriculture, road communications, and business activities in the country.
Sale of warm cloths, room-heaters, water-heater, and hotpots has increased due to the biting cold. Rural people of the northern and southwestern regions are the worst sufferers as the mercury dips here sharply.
The lowest temperature in the country was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi on Thursday. The lowest temperature of Dhaka was 14 degrees Celsius on the day.
Mild cold wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Pabna, Naogaon and Kurigram districts and it may continue, said Hafizur Rahman, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Light to moderate fog may occur at places over the country during midnight to morning, he said.
Light rain or drizzle is likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, he added.
