The government has directed all the Deputy Commissioners (DC) to take action against those involved in spreading rumors and propagandas on social media.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud told reporters after addressing the first session of the third day of the conference held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Thursday.
“Extensive discussions took place in the DC conference. I asked all the DCs to take action against those involved in provoking unrest by spreading rumour on social media,” he said.
DCs have been instructed to shut down unregistered IPTVs and YouTube channels that broadcast news in the country, he added.
A broadcasting policy has been is approved by the cabinet and DCs will take effective measures to implement it, said the minister.
He also praised the DCs for taking commendable initiatives by conducting mobile courts to implement “Clean Feed” programme since October 1 last year.
The DC conference began at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday after a two-year break due to corona situation in the country.
